Lovingly known to his 10 grandchildren as P-paw, Royse “Butch” Smith, Jr. passed away on October 26, 2017. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 25, 1946. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Armond Royse Smith and Mollie Leonard Smith. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Susan Hunnicutt Smith; sisters Jan Smith Drake (wife of Raymond Drake~deceased) and Melinda Tonetti and husband Robert; son Adam Royse Smith, daughter Kathryn Smith Brantley and husband Kris; step daughters Laurie Wade and husband Steve, Michelle Weeks and husband Dirk, and Andrea Rodriguez and husband Jesse. Butch cherished his grandchildren, Bailey, Konnor, Brynn, Bowen, and Keller Brantley, Jackson and Lola Wade, Reagan and Arden Weeks, and Blake Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous and beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces. Also, his and Susan’s two Whippets, Maia and Tony.
Butch graduated from R. L. Paschal High School in 1964 and earned a BS in Business from Texas Christian University in 1968. He was a member of the Army Reserve, where he served his country and met many life-long friends.
Anyone who knew or even came in contact with Butch was aware that he was a true Horned Frog fan—football, basketball, baseball. Additionally, he loved Bluegrass music and enjoyed the time he spent listening and playing Bluegrass music with his friends.
Butch was beloved by many because he loved many.
