Pauline “Polly” Benson, passed away October 15, 2017 in Stephenville. She was born February 24, 1927 in Waldron, Ark to the late Frank and Willie Schwartz, and grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. She moved to Fort Worth in 1949 and later moved to Colleyville, where she served for 2 years on the City Council, as the first woman elected to serve that office in Colleyville. While on the City Council, Polly served on the DFW Airport Zoning Board, the Tarrant County Solid Waste Advisory Board, and the Tarrant County Historical Commission.
Polly moved back to Fort Worth in 1974, and became active in her community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and has been a member of the Fort Worth Petroleum Club since 1981.
She served as Executive Secretary of the Optimist Club of Fort Worth from 1987-2005. In 1998, she was named Optimist of the Year. Polly served as President of the Opti-Mrs Club of Fort Worth 1982-1984 and served as Treasurer from 1988 until the club disbanded.
Polly was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Worth until 2016, when she moved her home and membership to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Granbury, where it remained until her death.

Polly was predeceased by her husband: Jack Benson, former County Auditor for Tarrant County, brother: Max Eugene Schwartz, sister: Mary Sue Kraut, brother: Billy Ray Schwartz, sister: Sandra Key Turney and her parents.
She is survived by 2 sons: Jeffrey Rowland and wife Cleo, and Kenneth (Rusty) Nelson and wife Connie, Grandchildren: Amanda Nelson, John Nelson, Max Rowland and wife Jill, great-granddaughter: Sarah June Nelson, Sister: Betty Camp, step-daughter: Judy Corbeille and husband Danny, and their children: Courtney, Christopher, Chandler, along with a hosts of friends and fellow Optimists around the world.
