Mittie Wiginton was born October 31, 1926 in Ellis County to William Harvey and Bertha Elizabeth Johnson. She lived most of her life in this area. She graduated from Itasca High School in 1944 and attended Hill Junior College and Texas Weslyn University in Fort Worth. She was married to James Henry Wiginton on April 5, 1945 in Itasca, Texas. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She worked for several years for the department of Agriculture and the U.S. Postal Service and was the first lady Letter Carrier hired in the Fort Worth Post Office. She retired in 1978. She then worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Clayton Kay Funeral Homes, retiring in 1996.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; James H. Wiginton on December 19, 1997, one brother; William Johnson, two sisters; Thava Corbin and Nell Gann; and a sister-in-law, and Jane Collins
She is survived by one son, James E. Wiginton; two grand-daughters, Patricia Polson and Cathy Steele; five great-grandchildren, Anthony Vasquez, Justin Vasquez, Sammantha Bradley; one great great grand-child, Hartley Grace; three sisters-in-law, Edith Johnson, Dorothy Pruitt, Joyce Elmore.
