L. R. (Red) Griffin, 83 years old
Red Griffin was born on May 25, 1933 in Caw City, Oklahoma and passed from this earth on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Griffin, a sister Jackie Odom, a sister L Ray Sloan, and a brother Emory Dale Frazier. He is survived by his loving son, L.L. (Red) Griffin & wife Debbie of Maypearl, TX; a daughter, Rhonda McGee & husband Jim, a son, Steven Griffin and wife Judy, a sister Sarah Winters & husband Royal of Lubbock, TX, and a special brother-in-law E.K. Finley and wife Nettie of Blackwell, TX. Big Red enjoyed spending time with and telling fishing stories to his granddaughters, Baylee Mae & Addie Jo Griffin of Maypearl. Several of his friends, who were in those stories, have preceded Red in death: Tom McMahen, Joe McMahen, Albert Ramirez, & Jodie Arnold. Red is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Red was transferred to Junction in 1967 by the Firestone Tire Company to service Allen Construction while I-10 was being built. After completion of I-10, Red remained in Junction to raise his family. He was a mechanic and held various other jobs around the Segovia area. His wife Billie was a nurse at Kimble Hospital for many years. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 20 at Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, TX at 11:00 a.m. The dress code is “river casual”.
